The Gender in Physics Working Group of the Indian Physics Association organized Pressing for Progress, a national conference on gender equity in physics in India in 2019 at the University of Hyderabad.

The meeting brought together participants across institutions and career stages to discuss structural barriers, representation, workplace culture, mentoring, and pathways toward meaningful reform.

Based on the discussions and recommendations emerging from the conference, the Hyderabad Charter for Gender Equity in Physics was formalized and circulated for endorsements across the scientific community.

  • Promote equitable opportunities in hiring, mentoring and leadership.
  • Strengthen institutional accountability and transparent processes.
  • Encourage inclusive academic culture and safe workplaces.
  • Improve representation across all career stages.
